Session 8

Vaer, Endings 18th

Arrive late night at Kurtle
Still no word on the trackers looking for Caden survivors

Drommer, Endings 19th

Anton is done forging
We discuss our future plans
building an alliance could create more tension between cities
one may feel threatened
Building a ship and trying to get home doesn't seem like a plausible idea
Maybe sailing along the coast of this bountiful, new land would be more within our means
Marcellus wants to use the night sky and stars to try and determine our position relative to Caden
we will need a professional to do this
We decide to head to South Kort
look for a shipmaker and navigator
we'll have Jurgen guide us again

Galskap, Endings 21st

Arrive in South Kort
About the size of Waite
Lots of stonework
Jurgen will go in ahead of us
he got us a meeting with Spirit Guildmistress Sesha, priestess of Gorschon
A couple of guards escort us to our meeting
Sesha is pleased to see Anton worships Gorschon
There are not a lot of history books the city, for us to learn of the Folrein
This are is at the edge of the Haedrean empire, so not much Folrein activity here
here briefly then left to the NE
The Empire was very aggressive, and during their expanding they encountered the Folrein at the tower
They engaged them in combat and lost badly
This is the only instance, that Sesha knows, of the Folrein in this peninsula
Trifinian has been more aggressive since their new King
she has not heard of any impending war though
We go to the Inn that Sesha recommended to us
it clears out pretty quick
there's also a screaming old lady outside
going on about something that where ever we go there will be piles of gems and rivers of silver
the runes told her so
Coletrane ignores this insanity and goes into the Inn
the rest of the party shamelessly give her a platform for more of her rantings and have more runes read
We rest at the inn

Styrke, Endings 22nd

Our meeting with the council
  • Wood Guild - Guildmaster Cerenog, Orc
  • Iron Guild - Guildmistress Elashor, Gnoll
  • Water Guild - Guildmaster Bitirmek, Orc
  • Earth Guild - Guildmistress Gaelira, Orc
  • Spirit Guild - Guildmistress Sesha, Hobgoblin
Rakak, bugbear head of watch, is there too
They are receptive to our alliance and a mutual beneficial partnership on the mine
They are also ok with us checking out the old city, abandoned 75 years ago
On the condition that we would assist them should Trifinian should ever attack
We agree on the basis that we do not want any conflict and prefer peace
but are willing to defend those against anyone that does not share this philosophy
We discuss the details of the mine
upon informing them of the undead we killed within, they appear concerned
We will accompany a survey team to the mines to appraise it's value
Rakak will come too
we depart later that day
Back to the mines
The haunt is still there, but Marcellus dispels it
he hears the haunt sigh, "bury us"
We should probably bury what remains of the miners
Rakak has only recently been dealing with undead
started appearing about a month ago or so
some miners and soldier skeletons, a few ghouls too
there's a forest across the river that has rumors of dark things happening there
At the secondary mine there appears to be more recent flowers now
Anton finds recent foot traffic in the area
Looks like more Boneminers and ghouls
we follow them, but after a while they scatter in 5 different directions.
we mark the area and go back to the mine
We bury the dead and hear a faint "Thank you"
Rakak and the engineers will go back to South Kort
the rest of us will stake out the area where the tracks split
A ghoul (19) attacks at night
we kill it

Veksle, Endings 23rd

Anton tracks the ghoul
came from same direction as the others. Dropped off a flower too
Rakak comes back, with 2 guards
he spoke to Sesha about the flowers.
She said that decaying flowers could be a symbol of Selleren, god of Corruption, Deceit, Seduction and Self-Sufficiency. A cult could be involved
We attempt to track these creatures again
the set we follow heads south, towards South Kort
leads to a small farmhouse outside of town
The old lady living there had a husband who recently passed
the body went missing
He never had anything to do with that mine

Session 7

Drommer, Endings 8th (continued)

We camp topside
Coletrane finds another entrance during his watch
6 more skeleton miners attack us at night
we kill them all

Bestille, Endings 9th

It is possible those Boneminers came from the other entrance Coletrane found
We should clear that area out too before we send workers here
Fabian is sick with ghoul fever, it eventually kills him days later
Marley says it won't be a big deal, he'll come back in a day or so
Second mine is much smaller than the first
still veiny, throbbing with untold riches
We find hundreds of old, decayed flowers at the end of the mine
we can't think of any reason why these are here
could be something obscure
they're probably been here years
underneath this pile we see some bloodstains, maybe a memorial of some kind?
Convinced the mine area is safe, we head back to Kurtle
Travel is uneventful
During travel we see some mauled deer
our guides believes it is the result of wolves, but are troubled that so little was eaten

Galskap, Endings 10th

Arrive at Kurtle
The Svartness have already left
We catch Krix up on our expidetion
he wants to introduce us to Matera, who may be able to assist us in this mining endevour
Matera is their best tunneler
he is willing to help with the silver mine, if ordered
we ask him several questions to ascertain his proficiency in mining
he'll be good enough, for a start
We start planning Minetown
things we needs
[   ] Someone who knows how to refine ore
[x] Tunneler
[   ] Miners
[   ] Get rid of the haunt
[   ] Transportation
[   ] Carpenters
[   ] Traders
[   ] Security
We send some kobolds to the Svartness
We want to present the idea of this mining town as a permanent settlement for them
since they seem to want this based on how they wanted to take over Kurtle
They could also serve as security for the town

Veksle, Endings 12th

The kobolds return from the Svartness
A few svarntess and Uwem are with them
Coletrane talks to Uwem about the mine
Creating a new town may be superfluous, since it is just within 2 miles of South Kort
But a mining operation should still be built
The Svartness will be willing to help in this cause
Our coming, as foretold by The Banisher, will ensure cooperation of the Svartness
Uwem recommends taking over South Kort through might
Population around 2.5k
Velubrias and Auross are the popular religions there
Gorshon is becoming popular too, due to Trifinian's growing aggression
Uwem doesn't know South Kort's political structure, but will look into it for us
Trifinian is about x10 as big as South Kort and much more militaristic
Aeralise and Gorshon are popular there
Monarchy
Anton and Coletrane both agree on creating a kind of alliance between South Kort, the Svartness and Kurtle
As the current geo-political situation is mostly independent city-states this kind of treaty will draw attention
Uwem returns from Sevitry with Jurgen, a hobgoblin
he knows about South Kort
It is run by a council of 5 Guildmasters
Wood, Iron, Water, Earth, Spirit
he will try and secure a meeting between us and this council
Jurgen met Nulgrim, sold him a lot of things as he traveled north
Jurgen mentions that most of the area has heard of our arrival, so no use hiding anymore
Might as well make that trip to Sevitry to buy gear and such

Vite, Endings 13th

Anton is staying in Kurtle to make some weapons
Marcellus, Marley, Coletrane, Uwem and Jurgen will go to Sevitry for supplies
Jurgen doesn't think we'll be able to get most of our supplies in Sevitry
He suggestions Trifinian
We agree and will only make quick stop in Sevitry before moving on to Trifinian
Uwem will not go to Trifinian, but will accompany us to Sevitry
Sevitry is, we are told, pretty small.
we get lots of stares, but no fanfare. Pretty quite.
Jurgen explains how the Folrein have a pretty big reputation for wanton destruction.
While Uwem thinks of that as a good thing, it is clear most people do not share that belief
Marcellus wants to allay any suspicion, and is not successful.
A bigger gesture will be needed.
We move on towards Trifinian

Helbrede, Endings 15th

Arrive at Trifinian
Definitely the biggest city we have ever seen
Jurgen "announces" us, people are still scared
He'll help us sell our axe and buy some things
First stop is The Temple of the Elder, a Saerbrethach church, to verify our item
Coletrane asks Jurgen why he isn't scared of the Folrein, like everyone else
he sincerely states that he just isn't frightened, and would rather get along with us instead.
With his help, we make our trades.
Begin our trip back to Kurtle

To Do List

We start planning Minetown

  • Things we need
    • Someone who knows how to refine ore

Session 6

Linjal, Endings 6th (continued)

Uwem offers her and her tribe's allegiance to us
we request their trackers to look for other people from Cadyn
We inform them of our intent to visit the Staerten pa Slootten
Uwem will provide guides
Should take two days
We avoid other travelers
Travel is pretty uneventful
See some strange animals

Drommer, Endings 8th

Cross the river
Our guides, Garn and Urmook, appear pretty nervous once the tower is in sight
they will go no further
The area appears as a dark hemisphere on top of a hill about a mile away
When we arrive there's pretty much a section of land that is in night time during the day
One strong magical aura, nothing like we have seen before
The tower is two stories, not in good condition
we don't cast traditional shadows in here, like reverse shadows instead
Really dusty inside, looks as if nothing has been here in a long time
Upstairs we find some garrison orders about protecting a mine
Basement is a larder full of rotten food
Find a guidestone that has been toppled over
so there may have been a road around here at one point
it does mention Trifinian, a city we know of to the east
it also points out the direction of the mine, so we'll try to find that
We find the mine, looks like some gnoll bandits have taken the place
the first one we encounter flees inside when he recognizes us
The gnolls do begin to talk once Marcellus initiates conversation
a bugbear does the talking, his name is Thaggun
aside from the gnoll and Thaggum there's also some orcs and hobgoblins
Marcellus engages in mostly small talk with Thaggun
Anton takes a closer look inside
the mine entrance has collasped
Marcellus's conversation with Thaggum almost turns violent, but he is able to diffuse it.
We decide to dig into the mine and see if we can clear a hole
it takes a couple of hours but we find a way in
We trigger a haunt upon entering
a haunt could be the lingering effect of a catastrophic event
Find bags with some silver ore in them
may be a silver mine
Encounter and kill 4 orc skeletons
used to be miners
looks as if something has chewed on the bones
maybe about the size of a dog
Find some non-animated skeletons arranged around a large pit
some have charring and more bite marks
3 ghouls attack us
we kill them
We find a lot of mined silver ore
several veins of ore too
Down another tunnel we walk through an improvised fortified area
blood trail going another direction
Find a ring of plentiful hunts in the nearby camp
In another room a skeletal warrior thinks he is in the Hadraen empire
he has no idea about the cave in
we try to parlay, it doesn't work
we end up killing him and his minions
his axe is a brutal 1 battleaxe
We cleanse the mine

Session 5

Veksel, Trials 12th

Marley awakens in a small room
the others are there, sleeping
Eventually 3 small lizard people enter the room, Kobolds
a little dragon-like in appearance
They speak Draconic
The one that speaks is name Krix
We are in the city Kurtle
another one of them, Vhob, found us on the beach 2 days ago
He keeps referring to us (sans Coletrane) as Folrein (Pale Ones)
other Folrein were here, hundred or so years ago, said more would come
Coletrane has them take us on a tour of their city
its like a cavernous system built into a cliff side
lots of kobolds start to follow us around
This is not a primitive civilization
Their library is small, about 10 books
some are on magical theory
Krix shows us a map
mentions green, tusked people living in a village to the north, called orcs
Krix says we are supposed to drive them off
Other races: Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, lizard people, ogres, giants, trolls, fey
The kobolds trade goods, but the orcs harass them
The kobolds seem scared of fey
They ID what Marley saw trying to tempt him into the water as a fey, but would say no more
We spend some time getting used to our new environment
making weapons and learning the local language
They have the same gods we do
They mention someone named Nulgrim
"When Nulgrim comes, he'll want to see us"
He's one of the wandering traders they deal with, a Hobgoblin
Anton makes us some weapons
in exchange for materials the kobolds want one of us to accept an Orc request for single combat
We take a trip into the wilderness
see some wolves, extinct back home
we find small pieces of the ship along the coast
never a body though

Linjal, Darkness 28th

Nulgrim visits
he's pretty shocked to see us, he also refers to us as Folrein
He's much easier to talk to than the kobolds
Coletrane asks him about this Folrein legend
The stories go that the Folrein arrived, fought with the Hadraen empire
first seen at a strange tower NE of here near a river
wielded great magical power
last seen walking northeast to a bay
Current geopolitical situation is mostly City-States, that empire is no more
some small communities
We ask him to explain the orc situation with the kobolds
there is a tribe of orcs in the plains north of Sevity, called the Svartenese
they want to take Kurtle
We discuss how to handle the Svartenese
Krix says they will be here next month, during their god's month
Anton wants to talk, and avoid bloodshed
We decide to wait for their arrival

Bedragari, Endings 5th

The Svartenese arrive
They are pretty surprised that Krix accepts the challenge for us
one of them, a female, is more interested than shocked.
she has a symbol of Rake-tar
Anton and Marcellus try to negotiate
it does not work
We settle on a fight tomorrow

Linjal, Endings 6th

Fight day
Marcellus overhears the female orc (Uwem) giving a pretty shitty pep talk to their champion, Cral
she also doesn't properly buff him, fails at the spells intentionally
An enlarged, divinely favored Anton makes extremely short work of him
Uwem says a prayer thanking Rake-tar that this destruction has come, and delivering the Folrein for more change
Cral offers his longsword, Sumnash, as a trophy
Coletrane was able to identify it as a Nightmare Blade
Coletrane approaches Uwem and confronts her about tanking her spells
She mentions our coming was foretold in a dream she and her chieftan had just prior to arriving at Kurtle.
Uwem interpreted it as aiding us would be in her god's favor

Session 4

Galskap, Storms 10th (continued)

Anton's new theory

Alre did it
He let Elsbeth out as a cover to steal the plans
Killed her too
Her escape plus the missing plans would ensure the Prince would suspect Elsbeth
He wanted to go to Haarn to meet another conspirator to pass the plans
Astul and another battleborne (a warpriest of Velubrias) are performing some rituals
Sacrificing goats for safe travel
Wrellen has finished his decoding
He believes it is a list of spies and contacts
List of names, occupation and locations
We make sure the list gets to another battleborne who is not coming on the boat
We have a day of shore leave before we leave

Stykre, Storms 11th

We make our final preparations as we leave early tomorrow morning

Veksle, Storms 12th

Depart in the wee hours of the morning
Travel is boring
Marcellus does supply plenty of wine

Drommer, Storms 30th

Foster asks Coletrane to check out something below deck
The sailors are saying that the supplies keep moving
Sailors say some supplies are missing too
We do a thorough search
Looks like one of the trap doors has seen a lot of use
Anton enters the bilge
finds Alre, sans shackles
he claims he needed more freedom, but is still loyal
Anton does not believe him
he believes he can prove his worth more by providing assistance to the voyage and settling
We take Alre to Captain Foster
he is put to work
A couple days later we notice the crew getting a bit jittery
too many continuous days on sea
Marcellus makes extra wine and gives a song performance
Spirits are raised

Helbrede, Dreams 3rd

Looks like a storm is brewing
Batters the ship pretty mightily
but we survive unscathed
another ship is missing though
one with battleborne aboard
Blew us a bit off course
about a day's worth

Linjal, Dreams 17th

Whilst in the crow's nest Anton sees something long and narrow under one of the other ship
Looks as if it is stalking the ship
A massive squid breaches the water, grabs one of the sailors and slams him
It deals significant damage to the other ship
10 casualties
We eventually kill it
The other two ships then attempt to repair the damaged vessel

Vaer, Dreams 18th

Repairs complete

Drommer, Dreams 19th

Marley and his spirit, Fabian, hear some shouting from one of the other ships
We maneuver our ship over to that one
When aboard Astul tells us that a battleborne has fallen to The Madness
Raving about swimming into the depths to marry some creature

Bedrageri, Dreams 27th

Marley sees something in the water during his night watch
It was a face in the water that put a voice in his head
When he tells Foster, he thinks Marley's gotten The Madness too
Marley sends himself to the brig
Captain Foster tells Coletrane about this
Coletrane gets the others to go talk to Marley
Marley explains that he and Fabian both heard this voice
And saw a face made of water in the ocean
It tried to tempt him into the deep
He seems calm though, and doesn't want to do anything crazy
He stays quarantined a couple of days, with no incident

Galskap, Trials 10th

More bad weather
Much worse than before
Another boat is severely damaged
Our ship is then cracked in half
and we are thrown in to the blue
Marcellus awakes on land
right below a massive greenish dragon that roars
Marcellus passes out
All equipment/gear is lost, save for the wand of cure light wounds and the blood scroll of ear-piercing scream

Session 3

Bedrageri, Storms 5th (continued)

We disembark from Wayte tomorrow

Astul Morraine may be a good person to seek advice from now that Jessica is out
It has been 3 days since Elsbeth has absconded with the ship plans
Things to do
[x] Talk to Shackles
[x] Investigate if Jessica did any other missions like the last one
[x] Talk to Astul
[x] Check out the jail
[x] Check out the library
[x] Find where the ship plans were kept and how they were stolen
[x] Talk to Foster
While dropping off the report, Foster advises to maybe hold off on looking for Elsbeth
trail too cold for any worthwhile attempt
Meet with Astul
We discuss Jessica
He knew about her spy network
"There is a lot of stuff the prince is not told, because there is a lot of stuff he doesn't need to be          bothered with."
We tell him about how the soldiers wanted her blood
He is concerned, but has never heard of that before
We tell him the information the spy gave Jessica, to see what conclusions he draws
He says it possible that that Fizz was found out as a spy in Tarrant and turned against Jessica
He thinks the ship plans were kept locked away
In the Queen's private library
Access limited to the Queen, the Prince, Capt Foster, Shackles, Wrellon Branor, Jessica
Some servants too
Anton's theory:
Jessica stole the ship plans (they went missing the day we left) and faked her death
He lays out his timeline, and it does sound convincing
But can't pin down a motive
Marley thinks Elston may have been involved
He does know that he occasionally still gets battleborne visitors while in jail
Visit the jail
Talk to the guards
The guard on duty was kill in the escape
He died close to her cell, and he should not have been near it
Anton finds a loose stone in her cell
a knife could easily be concealed in it
we check other cells to see if there are other false stones
we find two more, so 3/10 have these
Run into Hetzer after leaving the jail
We fill him in on our mission
Hetzer and Marcellus will meet the Prince to get access to the library
Marley, Anton and Coletrane will talk with Cap Foster
Hetzer and Marcellus obtain passage to the Queen's library
And also access to the rest of the estate
The rest speak to Cap Foster
He confirms that there are other copies of the ship plan
The other copies are kept in Aeralise Temple
Wrellen was the first to notice, when he was looking for other documents
he opens that chest daily
It's getting late, so we head to the Green Man to eat

Linjal, Storms 6th

Talk with Alre
The plans are locked up
Everyone with access to the library, sans servants, has a key to it
One would need to get past a set of guards to enter the Queen's chambers
and the library is adjoined to her room
He is skeptical that Elsbeth broke out of jail and made it all the way to the Queen's library
His theories: inside job, Jessica?
Coletrane asks if anyone else has requested access to the ship plans and been denied
He is not aware of any such instance
Of his meeting with Elsbeth in jail
He tried to convert her to our side
To the Queen's Library
The Queen herself gives us a tour
There is a window in her chambers, possible point of entry
difficult climb though
Alre gives us the names of the guards that worked the night of the burglary
We speak to them. 6 in total
They were stationed all night and saw nothing.
Going to check on the other copy of the ship plans at the Aeralise temple
It's kept in a big metal box, pretty much a vault
We confirm the plans are still safe
Marley mentions checking out Jessica's room
Hetzer brings up the point that we may be able to tell if she meant to return by what was left in the room
Find some wood carvings, of the royal symbols
A personal copy of some animal book
We search thoroughly
we find some scroll in a hidden compartment, lots of writings but we can't tell what they mean
perhaps a coded missive
Coletrane makes a copy during lunch
Meet with Wrellen
He says the chamber room's window was open
which is not out of the ordianary
We ask him to decipher the scroll we found in Jessica's room
He will reach out to us when he finishes
Anton will keep an eye on him
While waiting Alre approaches Anton
Alre wants to go on the voyage, but the queen is against it
He asks for help in convincing the queen
Hetzer will give Astin the idea that sending Shackles on the boats is a good way to get rid of him
Marcellus and Hetzer go to talk with the Prince
Hetzer gives him the good idea of putting Shackles on the boats

Vaer, Storms 7th

The day we disembark from Wayte to Haarn.
We learn that the Queen did not approve of Astin's idea to send Alre on the boats
Marcellus and Hetzer go to meet the queen to try and convince her
the meet Wrellen on the way, who seems to somehow irritate Marcellus
They are unsuccessful in changing her mind
Make our final preperations
We then set off to Haarn

Galskap, Storms 10th

Arrive in Haarn

Session 2

Vite, Storms 2nd (continued)

10 days until we disembark

Coletrane scribes some new spells in preparation for the trip
Anton makes some ammo
The others just drink or generally waste time

Helbrede, Storms 3rd

Jessica wakes us up very early
One of her spies has intel that Tarrant has their own Battleborne
Tarrant is not aware of this person, still a civilian in a small village
We are to make a trip via a fisherman vessel now
Should take about 2 days
We engage 2 patrols of Tarrant soldiers on the way to the village
Kill them all
We camp in a rocky outcropping for the night
only another couple hours until our target
Jessica's spy is a gnome named Fizz
According to Fizz he say strange colored lights coming from one of the houses
She suspects it could be a spell like dancing lights

Adel, Storms 4th

We meet Fizz in the morning
Coletrane questions this gnome
Fizz works as a messenger
Doesn't live in this town
Saw the lights first about a week ago, only seen it once
Just blue lights
It's a trap
Jessica is killed and her body taken away
"We need the blood," says one of the Tarrants
3 of them get away with Jessica
Those 3 were wearing the standard of Loce Siless
Loce Siless is the very capable General of the Tarrant military
Marcellus and Anton both fall, but not dead
The survivors begin the trek back to the boat

Bedrageri, Storms 5th

Get back to boat
Arrive back in Wayte
Prince Astin Waylen is Jessica's CO
Our prisoner from Tarrant, Elsbeth, has escaped while were were out of town
Prince Astin is mad. She stole something on the way out, according to the guard we heard this from
He was looking for us, which is weird because as Jessica's CO he should know where we were
Meet with the Prince
He wants us to find the elf, she stole the ship plans
We'll start by looking for another seasoned Battleborne Lt. like Jessica to talk to about the situation
Coletrane writes up an operation report for the prince.

Session 0+1

Veksle, Storms 1st

We are participating in a coordinated strike on Tarrant.
Our objective is a small logging community.
To create a staging ground for further ground advances.
We were successful, on our way back to our landing zone.
We are ambushed on the way back.
4 Elves. Kill 3, one runs away.
We keep one of them alive.
We bind our POW and take her back to our camp
On the way Marcellus notices some smoke in the direction of our camp
Upon arrival it looks as if our ship took some fire damage
Scattered, dead, Tarrant soldiers
Cadyn appears to have been victorious
Captain Foster informs us that they were ambushed shortly after we left

We take turns watching our POW

As we arrive in Wayte we see 4 new large exploring ships

Very similar to the ones that went in the fog a year ago [tippy title="(note)"]The scout ships didn’t go into the fog. The fog had already broke before they left. 1) Fog breaks, 2) true gods and divine magic shows up, 3) technology for oceangoing vessels revealed, 4) arcane magic revealed. These happened in that order within the first few months. Fog has currently been gone about 2 years. - DM[/tippy]

Coletrane drops our POW off at the prison

We then do our usual debriefing and turning in our gear at the quartermaster

During our debriefing we can hear Prince Astin Waylen screaming about something at Captain Foster

Slurring too, pretty drunk

Marcellus tries to gather information about the new ships in port

gains no useful knowledge

Everyone goes to the Green Man
Pretty busy, lots of chatter about the new ships
Marcellus and Hetzer hob-knob

They're here for an inspection by the Queen, then sailing to Haarn

While walking back to the barracks late at night a commoner runs at us with a garden hoe
He clocks Anton with it, who then promptly knocks him out in one swing
Coletrane checks for magical effects, none

Hetzer notices that he's been drinking, a lot

Coletrane picks up the body and carries it to the prison
While there Hetzer asks about our elf prisoner

Shackles paid a visit, but that's all we learn

Vite, Storms 2nd

Everyone, except Coletrane, goes to pay a visit to our attacker, Gregor, from last night
He looks really hungover, spent some time vomiting
He apologizes about assaulting us
Says elves are holding his family hostage and made him do this
Hetzer wants to have Marcellus act dead and for the Commoner to bring him as "proof"
He says there are 4-5 of them at his house
They check on the elf prisoner to see if she knows anything

They go no where slowly with her

The group, after picking up Coletrane, then goes to inform Jessica of the possible elves on Cadyn
We catch her up to speed on the events of Gregor

She writes up orders for the quartermaster and jailer

We get our gear and then head back to Gregor

Marley recommends using a real dead body instead of one of us faking it, we agree

While leaving Wayte for Gregor's farm we see all 4 of the new ships sailing NE

Arrive at Gregor's
Our plan works, mostly.
There were 4 elves and 1 dwarf, only one elf survives
We also save all the family members
We try and track where these Tarrants came from
Fabian finds tracks leading north
Marcellus interrogates our POW
He says they were dropped off via boat on the northern coast
Anton confronts him on the absurdity of their plan and 0 chance of success

He just says it was a long shot, but offers no other explanation

We make him take us to where he arrived by boat, its empty
Same place the tracks lead to
Boat is to return in a couple days for pick up

signal is a flag, any kind will do

Walk back to Wayte
Drop off another POW
Report to Jessica
She also tells us some news from the Queen
Apparently one of the ships that went into the fog a year ago found a large, bountiful land.
Our new orders will be to accompany the 4 new ships to this land.
Jessica and Captain Foster will be joining us.
About 70-80 day journey
We leave in 10 days
We are prohibited from discussing this mission with anyone else
The scouts found no signs of intelligent life on this new land

If we are to encounter any civilizations, we are to attempt diplomacy first

The Gwinsle Divergence

The Gwinsle Divergence

The Facts

Jessica Gwinsle is presumed dead at the hands of the Tarrant military.
Elsbeth Traleth has escaped on the same night of Jessica's death.
The exploring ship plans have been stolen on the same night of Jessica's death.

The Implication

Cadyn has a breech that is very close to Queen Setta Waylen.

The Hypothesis

Jessica Gwinsle is working for Tarrant as a double agent.

The Narrative

In the very early morning hours of Helbrede, 3rd of Storms Jessica Gwinsle wakes select Battleborne consisting of Coletrane,  Marcellus Bayfield, Marley Blackwater, and myself. We are informed of a mission of the utmost importance that is to be carried out immediately. The details are sparse, we are to meet one of her spies that has information regarding a Tarrant Battleborne that their own country is uninformed about. The evidence of a existence of this Battleborne is wanting; a strange light seen in the window of a house as the spy was passing through. We take a civilian fishing vessel to Tarrant's shore. There seems to be no other involvement of the Cadyn military.

On Adel, 4th 0f Storms we meet with her spy, Fizz. He adds no further compelling information about this so-called Battleborne that we are seeking. Fizz gives us directions to the village and the house where he saw the light. He warns us of a likely ambush location near a bridge.

Jessica Gwinsle is a Battleborne and the Commander of the rest of the Battleborne. She makes consistent and sound decisions. One of her roles is as a scout for the Cadyn military. On this day a proven Battelborne scout failed to notice an ambush, with full knowledge of the high probability of such a thing occurring at this exact spot. Jessica Gwinsle led four Battleborne into a trap.

During this combat, Jessica was initially separated from the rest of her group and taken down by the awaiting Tarrant military, only to be dragged off as a captive. Her blood is mentioned as being useful as she is being carried off. The destroyed bridge spanning a raging river should have been enough to end the foray; however, the prowess of Cadyns Battleborne proved no match for Tarrant. The Tarrant soldiers carried Jessica away while their comrades left behind were dispatched.

Elsbeth Traleth, a war prisoner from Tarrant, escaped some time during the night of Vite, 2nd of Storms and the morning of Helbrede, 3rd of Storms. The highly guarded plans for the Cadyn exploration ships have also gone missing during this same time frame. The very same time that Jessica is acting on this information that leads her and four Battleborne into Tarrant.

This this all coincidence or by uncanny design? What if...

Jessica has access to the room and chest where the ship plans are stored. No guard would think to stop her from entering the room, especially if she had a legitimate, or seemingly legitimate, reason for being there. She knows few people have access to the chest and once Wrellen is done for the day no one else is likely to notice anything missing. A quick in and out for someone that is supposed to be there.

Then, Jessica helps set Elsbeth free. She is guarded and locked in a cell with no discernible way to exit or harm the guard from the inside. The guard would have no reason to open the door. Jessica asks to see Elsbeth and dispatches the guard.

Jessica then initiates her escape plan to cover any avenue that may have been left open. She gathers some Battleborne for an urgent mission in Tarrant, requisitions a non-military vessel for transport so as to not throw any signals, and meets with her Tarrant handler. Who directs her to a spot where she will be separated from her companions and taken under Tarrant protection.

What could be the motive for such a sudden but inevitable betray? Cadyn conscripts all Battleborne into military service, no exceptions. To get out one has to die, get imprisoned, or turn defector. With little place to stay low in Cadyn, where is a defector to go? To Tarrant, of course. How would Tarrant accept a commander from Cadyn, their sworn enemy, into their midst? Provide an offering that is too good to refuse; provide the blueprints to build ships that are able to reach the new lands.

That Jessica is presumed dead at the hands of the Tarrant military does little to debunk this. The force that Jessica met with were under the command of the Dragon, Loce Silas, who is known to be a fierce and skilled commander. Once the goods have been delivered, what is the benefit of keeping excess baggage? After all, once a traitor, always a traitor. And for whatever reason they could have wanted her blood, there was plenty of it. It ties up the loose ends nicely.
